my 3 year old pushed 1 year old three quarter way down stairs

Hello my 3 year old pushed my 1 year old three quarter way down the atairs. he rolled down stairs on his side and has small bruise/bump on top of his forehead. he cried straight away and was walking around and smiled so think he is ok. have doctors appointment this afternoon to double check. felt sick and was furious with ds1. Put him in the naughty room and told him off but want to make sure does not do this again. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice please. thank you

these things happen. It sounds like you're dealing with it fine. Hopefully it will have shocked your three year old and he won't do it again.

This happened to me. 4 year old 1 year old. DD1 has never looks so scared in her LIFE.
Shes 10 now and still remembers with horror the day she did it.
They dont realise consequence.
Stair gates on either end of the stairs would stop it from happening again.
I hope your littley is ok, sure he will be.

At 3 and 1 you need to make sure you don't leave them together unsupervised, and definitely not on the stairs. I speak as someone whose 3 yr old did exactly the same thing, so I am really not criticising. 3 is very young, and there can be all sorts of issues about not really understanding consequences, as well as acting out a bit of sibling rivalry/jealousy.

TBH, if you go overboard getting angry with him, he is more likely to be more resentlful of the one year old.

My ds2 (who was then just 12 months old) bounced all the way down the stairs and had huge lumps on his head. I was distraught, but he is absolutely fine, and doing his AS levels ATM.

He is too young to understand the consequences of what he does. Of course you must tell him off but he did not INTEND baby to be hurt.
Don't go too mad at him. try instead to encourage his sympathy for babe and his big brother pride in helping to keep baby safe.

My 6 yr old dd is SN and mentally about 3 yrs old. I don't leave her unsupervised on stairs with (almost) 2 yr old ds. Specially now that he has 'fun' on the stairs - sliding etc. (He still managed to tumble down all by himself though - didn't need big sis to give a push!)
They play and have fun pushing and shoving each other and would not understand not to do it on the stairs.

3 (or 6 in my case) is still little to understand the implicatons so getting angry won't really help.

I use stair gates (up & down) and she still hasn't figured out how to open them and it's one thing I ain't gonna teach her!!
