Anyone else in baby sleep hell?

I have a 4 month old baby boy who slept like a log (8-9 hours with no wake ups) until 2 weeks ago. Now he’s awake every 90 minutes, with a longer wake up at around 2am which lasts a couple of hours. He won’t nap in his cot any more. I’m absolutely exhausted, at that point where I’ve googled whether you can die from lack of sleep. It takes me another half hour to drift off again after putting him to bed so I’m getting about 3 broken hours at the moment. I’m so tired I’ve stopped yawning, and every day just feels like I’m walking through water. Even climbing the stairs is an effort.

I know it’s the classic regression, this too shall pass, blah blah. But just wondered if anyone else wanted to moan with me. I’m dreading tonight already and feel on edge.

We're in the middle of teething at the minute with my 11 month old. I'd got used to just 2 wake ups but were now on 5/6. Can't wait for these teeth to finish coming through, am exhausted.

How long have they been teething? Sending sympathy! ☕️

YES MEEEEEE! (Well, us- husband living through the four month regression also).

Our son is 4.5 months and wakes every 45 mins to 2 hours from 11pm ish. Last night he was awake solidly between 1.20-2.30 as well.

Been about a month so far of this crap sleep. We feel he's too young right now for sleep training plus we have another son on school holidays so don't have the energy to train on daytime naps too.

Currently we use white noise, the exact same bedtime routine every single night, we swaddle as his startle reflex is still ridiculously strong. We use a dummy and we feed/cuddle to sleep! So we really need to get him off the sunny/falling asleep by himself etc etc etc.

It's so hard though as of for example I don't pick him up and feed/cuddle when he wakes in the night his cries turn to hysterical screams that do not end. I've been reading literally everything on sleep schedules/ advice to get babies to sleep and feel nothing works

Yes I am, baby is EBF (not by choice she won't take a bottle) so all the night wakings are on me. She's 5 months now and it's definitely improved a lot so hang in there. In the morning when she's first awake I feed her and then my husband takes her for an hour or so and I go back to bed, this is the only way I can function. If you DC takes a bottle hopefully your partner can help out, alternate nights even, I have a 4 year old so I know it doesn't last too long

FoodFann · 09/08/2023 19:59

Have you tried starting him on food?

Dylangreencat · 09/08/2023 20:02

Food shouldn't be started until 6 months, so many studies to show their bodies aren't ready and can lead to digestive issues in the future

My 8 month old has become a bit of a pain, night before last she woke up at 1:30 and then was up for 3.5 hours, only slept for 40 mins max after that and then was awake for the day.... HOW??!! Last night I kept her next to me in bed rather than in her room, and apart from one sleepy feed she didn't wake at all. I'm waiting to see what bedtime tonight will be like ...

Me 😭 my 7 month old has a triple whammy at the moment of teething, being constipated and having a stinking cold. The past few nights have been horrendous. He’s been off his food for a couple of days so he’s also been hungry but struggled with the bottle because he can’t breathe through his bunged up nose!

I have been giving him prune puree periodically today and Ashton and parsons and calpol before bed - we’ll see if that makes any difference whatsoever.

Bless him he’s so under the weather but still a smiley little sod! My monthly email from ‘what to expect’ the other day said babies his age sleep 11 hours a night ‘some straight through’ and 3-4 hours a day naps 🤣🤣 I actually laughed out loud.

Jamtartforme · 10/08/2023 14:37

how was last night for everyone? We only had 2 wake ups which surprised me, but with not much sleep either side so got something like two chunks of 3 hours. Still a huge improvement though.

@Fearnecuptea sounds very similar to here Sad how was last night? I’ve just ordered a 0.5 tog baby sleep bag in desperation thinking being a bit more cocooned might help - haven’t used one yet as the nights have been a bit sweaty and he’s just been in a baby grow, he kicks blankets off then cries.

@Dylangreencat im EBF too, baby has allergies and will reluctantly take a bottle but only a couple of Oz before spitting and screaming. Arghhhh. So rough when you can’t share the load with someone else. Also have a 4 year old but her regression wasn’t quite this bad unless I’ve misremembered…

Last night was torture, had plans to wash my hair but everytime I was about to get into the shower she woke, gave up at about 10 and went to bed. I'd say she was up every 2 hours but at least settled quite quickly but that continuous broken sleep is hard!! Keep reminding myself it won't last forever

firstlittleone · 10/08/2023 22:52

Oooo I am here with you in solidarity!
bub is just over 4 months old - takes up to 2 hours to settle for bed no matter if it’s brought earlier or later, will drop off to sleep whilst on the boob and as sooooon as we go for the bassinet PING eyes open. Some nights she goes 3-4 hours but nights like tonight every hour since 7🤪
won’t sleep for naps in the day for longer than 30 mins unless boob is nearby and being held.
week before last she was a COMPLETELY different baby - but now she can roll over and is chewing on her hands/dribbling everywhere .. hoping it’ll soon end (at least that’s what Google says)

I get so sick of reading this too😂 my 10mo has never been a good sleeper, he currently has 2 20min naps in the day, so where are the extra 3 and a bit hours?

Toddler101 · 10/08/2023 23:29

Coming up 4m for mine! Waking every 2hrs is the norm here, the longest sleep so far was almost 4hrs, otherwise 2-2.5hr max.

My DH just woke baby this evening after I'd fed to sleep for 30min on the boob! So unhappy with DH rn! He's gone to bed and I'm sat feeding again 😴

My toddler is a bundle of energy in the day too. I'm exhausted.

My toddler was still waking 4 times a night at 15 months but did eventually start sleeping through at 25months.

You do just get used to it, being permanently exhausted....🥴
