Can anyone recommend a good book for a 4 year old about to start school? He's started to open up about worries about school at bedtime. It's social emotional rather than academics. His friends from nursery are going to other schools :( We have Ruby's worry already...

I’m too small for school, Lauren Child
Starting School, Janet and Allan Ahlberg

Janet & Allen Ahlberg's book "Starting School" is old but excellent. It covers the whole first term, including crucial points that they have to go back for a second day at school! Topsy & Tim Going to School is also good.
Also, My Big Book of Feelings is good for children of this age to actually learn some words to describe how they feel. Until we read that, DS didn't know how to explain the butterflies in his stomach and nor had I realised that, sometimes, when he said he felt "hot" he meant emotionally hot & bothered not physically hot.

Some excellent suggestions already. Mine both seemed to like Harry and the Dinosaurs Go To School.

I agree on the Ahlbergs book Starting School. It’s one of the best children’s books ever.

I also have a child about to start reception. One thing our nursery advised is to start role playing behaviours. We've bought a little playmobil school so that we can act out different scenarios, mainly around social interactions (asking someone if you can play with them etc).

Thanks! The starting school one looks about right so I've ordered that for now :)
