2 week old suddenly guzzling bottles & gasping?

My daughter is 18 days old and for the last few bottles she's suddenly decided to guzzle them down without pausing? Then she's getting panicky because she's obviously taking on too much milk and she starts gasping and shaking her head to get the bottle away. She's not done this before, she normally drinks them okay apart from a bit of leakage around her mouth. She'll usually pause as and when she needs to. I don't know what's changed or what (if anything) I can do about it? I try and keep taking the bottle from her but she can literally only manage a few sucks each time before she's panicking. It's making it such hard work to feed her and then if the bottle isn't in her mouth she falls asleep so I keep having to try rouse her to take more 🙈

That's tough. Mine used to do this if one of his DG's would tip the bottle too much. Could that be it?
It could also be a growth spurt maybe she is hungrier?

Could be a bit of growth spurt.

You could try getting teets with a smaller hole in them. IIRC they have a “size” but also a “flow rate” based on the size of the hole. A lot of newborn bottles will actually come with a medium flow hole so just check and swap for a slow flow if so and encourage pauses if needed!

@fierybrunette @RedLem0nade It could definitely be a bit of a growth spurt. She's already had 375ml today since midnight.

I feed her upright so I don't think the bottle is tipped too much. She's definitely got the right size teats, they're Tommee Tippee slow flow size 1. I did try her with the vari flow anti colic teats but she didn't get on with them at all.

I was going to say the opposite - try a faster teat? It might be to satisfy her hunger she's having to gulp quickly.

@Scottishgirl85 I'm not sure about a faster teat. Only because at every feed, milk dribbles out the corners of her mouth, even when she wasn't doing the guzzling thing
