My ds (aged 2 and a half) has finally started to show an interest in sitting on his potty/on the toilet - up til now he refused point blank, and I didnt push it. He hates having his nappy changed, so I'd love him to be potty trained, but have no idea how to start. At the moment, he only wants to sit on it once in a blue moon. should I just take his nappies off? any tips please?

I am at the same point as you... DS used to thinm of it as a toy and puts things in there. The way I started is when he gets and first nappy change I sit him on potty with breakfast and the put his nappy back on. I do this after this afternoon anp and just before bed until he gets used sitting on it. We are still on this stage and hope to put him in big boy pants next week while parents are here to help with my otherone. A friend suggested this so we will see if it works....

I've just had this conversation with DS nursery as he really hates having his nappy changed & I hate having to fight him everytime. They suggested a staged process:

  1. Practice pull up / pshing down own trousers.
  2. Practice sitting on potty so DS isn't scared of it.
  3. Move to trainer pants & a regular routine of when to use the potty. Wake up & potty. Eat breakfast then potty. Eat snack & potty. Etc... I think our plan is work on steps 1 & 2 over Christmas then try step 3 with nursery's help - gulp.

Sounds like a great idea.. Nursery helps a lot as well taking the heat of you. WE have got stages 1 and 2 done its just the case of keeping an eye on him and waiting for the "Big Moment"
