How to deal with kids favouritism

Just wondering how you deal with favouritism and what you say to your partner when it’s not them

DS has always been a bit of a mummy’s boy, but currently going through a phase of I love mummy and and I love my comforter (apparently I am second to the comforter because he loves that the most). When DH asked if he was loved too, the answer was no. DH got the brunt of the catatonic meltdown today whilst I was cooking dinner, and lots of ‘I don’t love you daddy’ was said.

In the past I have also ‘not been loved’ but I know it’s all a phase. DH takes it a bit more personally. I’ve told him it’s a phase and obviously he is loved but I can see it still gets him down

Any advice?

Well, an important thing is not to give the child a reaction to it.

But a standard reply is along the lines of "I'm sorry to hear that as I love you"
or even
"...as I love you, although I don't like this behaviour at the moment" if they think that will help.
