I have a 2 year old. Since he was born my parents seem to be totally disinterested in me, have stopped supporting me (not financially - emotionally/being helpful… or maybe they never did but I just didn’t need it anywhere near as much before). They visit all the time but their only purpose for the visit is to see my son. They literally walk past me when I open the door to say hello to him. They won’t bother if he’s not here, not even if I really need them. When he goes to bed they leave. They never helped a single morsel when he was born, not even doing a nappy. They just wanted cuddles and to push the buggy.
It’s starting to really pee me off. I wouldn’t ever do this because it’s not fair on my son but if I thought it wouldn’t affect him I’d go low contact. But I can’t do that to him; he adores them and they are good with him to be fair. Has anyone else’s parents acted like this? How do you get past the resentment?
