ds won't wee standing up

Does anyone have any ideas? He's 3 and has been dry day and night for 6 months but will only wee sitting down - it seems he can't relax when standing up. He's seen his friends/dad do it, but is still not interested. Should I just forget about it for now?

I think so, he will eventually I'm sure

I hope so! It's a real pain when we go out eg to the woods as I have to hold him up and make sure his willy is pointing down cos the wee goes everywhere otherwise!!

My ds has just turned 3 and we haven't really even tried to get him to wee standing up ... if he is happy sitting down does it really matter?

that sounded harsher than I meant ... to be honest my dp wees sitting down most of the time - unless he is out somewhere that isn't clean etc. I would rather ds got it in the potty or toilet rather than miss whilst standing up for now!

I guess so - we do go for lots of outings in the countryside so it would be a bonus but not the end of the world if he can't do it. Just wondered if anyone had any tips for gentle encouragement?

if he ever needs a wee in the bath .. rather than get him out or let him wee in the bath, hold the potty in front of him and see if he will go into that ... its the only time my ds does it standing up! might be a start!

jay11 · 27/02/2008 13:37

Good idea - will definately give that a try.

Get a flourescent ping pong ball and float it in the loo . Get Daddy to aim at it and show him how it's done.
Ping pong will float and shouldn't flush away.

Hi, my son has been trained for a while both day and night - he is 2 1/2, he started to stand for a while, but has reverted back to sitting down again, its annoying coz he somehow manages to wee through the seat - are you having the same problem?- I have heard that you can buy targets to help with them standing up but never seen them anywhere.

ritzyrat · 23/03/2008 20:50

I did the ping pong thing. I lost 2 balls in 1/2 hour down the u bend after he put his arm down the toilet after them. Won't be doing that again in a hurry. My son is now 4 and a bit and still sits down for a wee. Used to bug me but I'm king of resigned to it now. I'm sure he'll get the hang of it one day.

Hi - my ds refused to wee standing up for ages, just not interested.
However within a couple of weeks of starting school he was weeing standing up. I know that is a way off for you but just to let you know that he should get there eventually!
