DS not speaking on phone

My DS (10) is on holiday with his dad.

He is normally very chatty in person, but is practically mono syllabic on the phone..it is driving me nuts!!is this normal?

is it just my kid who won’t talk on the phone?

Oh this is totally normal! I'm now having flashbacks to when DNiece got her first phone and used to ring me daily to have this conversation:
DN: Hi
Me: Hi! How are you?
DN: Fine
Me: What have you been up to?
DN: Not much
Me: Have you got any plans for the day/week/month?
DN: Not really

And on...and on...and on...

Afraid to say my solution was to stop answering the phone 😳

I just can’t believe the difference between his phone conversations and how he is in person.

It sounds like he’s being held hostage!

Ha! When I call my ds they don’t even say ‘hello’. They just wait for me to speak.

video works better, no kids appear to be able to speak on the phone

I find WhatsApp video phone works .much better with my niece and nephew because they can see me so they talk more.

I couldn't stand talking on the phone at that age. Used to be given the option of a phone call or letter to thank for presents. The hours it took to write letters was infinitely preferable to the a 2 minute phone call. Terrified me!

Oh God yes! I dont know how many times I have had to tell my children when they answer the phone they are supposed to say something!
