3 year old living life as a dog..

Hi, I wanted to ask for some advice from more seasoned mums about my 3, almost 4 year old. She's generally great and a very happy little girl with a kind and caring personality. She's been developmentally right on track with no issues raised by nursery.

For about 2 years now though she has been pretending to be a dog, it was occasionally at first and seemed quite cute. Now she's hopping about on all fours constantly, barking and telling me her name is Jasper. To be honest it's becoming quite embarrassing when we go out and about. She has a little sister, and I think it started before she was born, but did get worse afterwards.

We've been trying to not make a big deal of it, but when she talks about being a dog we just say "Jasper is good but we love Anna (her real name!) too". We were hoping that she'd grow out of it but if anything it's getting worse. Google tells me it's a sign of being an empathetic person, which I can definitely see, but to be honest I'd just really like a visit to soft play with no barking!

Any advice/moral support would be much appreciated!

My 4 yr old is a mermaid called Annie. She won't wear leggings because she hasn't got legs.

I was a dog called Daisy! I am perfectly normal now with a respectable job but did reveal the Daisy Dog story to DP at one point and he often calls me DD to annoy me.

I remember being a horse for a few weeks because I had watched Black Beauty.

My lovely incredibly patient parents took me out for tea. I didn’t speak and pointed to what I wanted on the menu and neighed and nodded.

One of my children was desperate to be a rabbit at that age. It passes.

This thread is making my heart happy.

Bless all these quirky kids.

Even me, Crystal-Diamond (who I now realise was probably from some kind of hareme)

These stories are great!

I remember only ever crawling on all 4s. Wore through the knees of my bottoms. Not once did my parents say stop it!

Dd 1 was a turtle for awhile and dd2 a dinosaur. With an imaginary friend last seen in a cupboard.

Agree with pp this stage is simpler than moody teenagers!

Crystal diamond and the horse having shoes fitted are my favourite ones so far.

My 3 year old is convinced she's Elsa. Every single day she has to wear her Elsa dress. We must not call her by her real name or all hell breaks loose. I've had to buy several outfits that look similar as she's worn them out so much 😂 we are all characters in her eyes I'm Anna the sister and her dad is Christoff. Her sister is olaf and the dog is Sven. I love toddler minds. Although walking round lidl when she's acting like she's freezing everything she touches is slightly embarrassing 😂😂

This is an adorable thread.

When I was little I used to pretend to be a cat. I walked on all fours and curled my fingers under the palm of my hands to pretend they were paws, I also used to lick the back of my hands.
Fucking embarrassing thinking about it now and it drove my dad insane. I'm perfectly normal now.... I think. 😂

My dd was a dog for a year when she was four. I say dog, but actually a series of dogs as the first thing I had to do every morning was tell her what kind of dog she was and what her name was.

She had a bowl of dry cheerios and a bowl of water for breakfast.
