Hey all 😊 how do you find having a three door car with a baby/baby seat? (Specifically Audi a1 but happy to hear about all) thank you!

If it's the car you've already got, it will be fine.
If you can afford it, get a 5 door next time you buy a car. Your back will thank you.
It's also easier if you have plenty of space to open the door wide.

I had a micro 3 door. Baby seat went in front passenger seat with airbag off.

When DS was born I had a 3-door Ford Fiesta. Only upgraded to a 5-door when she was 18-months.

You can do it if you have to. We had to but it’s a little pain.

It’s a pain - don’t know where the “little” came from!

I mean it's doable. At newborn stage I just lifted the carseat out and carried it with baby in it. Yes, there was climbing into the backseat so my back didn't fall off. It also got harder as he got heavier.

When he was 8 mo we got a spinning carseat and it CHANGED MY LIFE. I pulled the front seat forward and just had to step one foot in the car to scoop him out. SO much easier.

But yeah, now I have a 5 door and it's better.

As per all previous replies. It is perfectly possible, or doable, but obviously - if you were buying a new car at any point, as you might expect, it is easier with a 4 door car.

hauntedvagina · 30/07/2023 17:21

I actually found it easier to get the baby carrier in and out of a three door. Our passenger seat slid forwards meaning I could climb in the backseat footwell and tackle things head on rather than having to reach across.

RoSpa says safest place in a car is the middle in the back if the seat can be fixed there. Baby must be rear facing. The back is always better then the front. Lots of cars have multiple airbags so the front is the worst place.

I found a three door better than a five door. It was easier to strap the baby/child in as I had space in front of the car seat with the front seat folded forward.

I have a large 5 door and the two times I've had to strap my baby seat in a friends 3 door has been so annoying lol! Avoid at all costs I'd say, I don't know how she deals with it on a daily basis, she is looking to get a 5 door asap! Not good if you've got a bad back either. I guess you would get used to it if you had no other choice but it is very awkward - car seats are bulky and babies get heavy quickly!! x

The way round it is to keep a baby seat permanently in the car. Just lift baby!

Mummyof287 · 30/07/2023 21:31

Hellish! 😱 Had a 5 door mostly but sometimes used our 3 door polo when DD2 was tiny and the worst part was having to lift the heavy carseat over the ridge at the front of the isofix base, and trying to manouvere it to squeeze between the small gap in the door when in parking spaces.I could feel it pulling my stomach every time.Luckily I hadn't had a C-Section!

I have only ever done this, absolutely too much hassle to do otherwise. Not sure about a 3 seater though, if it's rear facing then super tricky I would imagine.

I've had a 3 door car since DS was a baby and to be honest it's been such a nightmare. I cannot wait to get a 5 door car!

bc13247 · 30/07/2023 22:51

Saying that it is doable but just not ideal at all

Confetti16 · 13/01/2024 11:32

Hi which spin seat did you get that fits this car?

Me too!

Also handy when it's chucking it down with rain as you can be in the car doing the straps up.
