Tongue Tie

Hi,

I have a 7 week old baby. I was breastfeeding for 10 days and switched to formula due to the pain. First time mum so knew no different. Was told when he was born that he had tongue tie but didn’t really know that it could affect breastfeeding and midwife didn’t do anything about it or seem concerned.

ive now booked privately to get it snipped on Saturday. My son struggles with wind, loses latch from bottle and feeds half feeds all the time because he is falling asleep on the bottle. He is unsettled most of the day as I assume he’s hungry!

Just after some success stories really as I’m so anxious.

Hi, can i ask how your LO has been since having his tongue tie snipped? Has things improved? My 8 week old had a tongue tie he is bottle fed but recently spilling a lot of milk when feeding so wondering whether to get his snipped also. What was the procedure like? How were they after?

Hi, he’s now 11 weeks tomorrow! I was quite anxious about the procedure however it wasn’t as bad as I thought. He was swaddled up and my husband held his head still, the specialist snipped his posterior and anterior tongue tie so he had two snips. Then she stopped the bleeding with a gauze and he fed straight after.

We gave Calpol for the first day however Day 4-6 was very hard and he cried non stop for four hours on the 5th day. It is so worth it - he is such a happier baby, less gassy, doesn’t dribble as much milk etc.

It can apparently cause speech problems in later life too which was one of my the reasons I went ahead with it.

I would recommend. We paid privately and found a lovely specialist who still checks in on how he is doing.
