My baby will be a year old in a month and I'm thinking of gifts to get her. Shes a speedy crawler and she cruises around furniture but no walking yet. Shes alsp tall for her age, she wears 18-24 months clothes. What do we think of:

  • Pikler triangle and slide - has anyone got one and would you recommend it? If you like yours, where did you get it from? And does it fold away? Also is it OK for use inside and outside on a deck? And is it sturdy, will it slip around on a laminated wood floor?
  • Trike - Could you recommend one that folds so we can put it in the boot?
  • bubble machine

And if you had to choose between a scuttlebug, balance bike, cosy coupe and rocking horse which would you get?

And have I missed any really great toy for a 1 year old?

Thanks!

Bubble machine would be the winner in our house!!

Triangle really depends on the child. DD is extremely cautious and always needs hand holding at the top.. so it's essentially become an expensive toy car ramp 🙄

From your list at the end id throw into the mix a 3 in 1 micro scooter, which will have more longevity than any of those. The first stage you push them along like a trike, then you can take the push handle off so it's like a balance bike, and then the seat can come off and they can scoot! DD is 2 and we've used hers almost everyday since she got it at 1.

Cosy coupe. It has the most longevity and she can start using it straight away - the scuttlebug will take a few more months at best - maybe longer still - and the balance bike longer again - save that one for her 2nd or even 3rd birthday

Thanks for the feedback!

@Spottypineapple thats a useful point about the triangle. We have a risk averse baby who doesn't like the slide at the park at the moment, so maybe the triangle isn't for us. Frees us money for other things!

@LittleRedY0shi excellent, cosy coupe it is!

I've been making a little list for my baba who will be 1 in October. Look up the globbee 3 in 1 bike. Starts as a 4 wheeler with a long handle for you to push, then into a trike and then into a balance Nike. I thought it looked pretty cool.

I was looking at the little tikes cosy truck instead of cosy coupe as my LO is quiet tall so want to make sure it's plenty big enough by the time he actually can use it independently. Might be worth a look if your LO is on taller side.

I also have the little tikes rocker on my list as one of my friends got one for her LO 1st birthday and he loved it from the get go, rocking mad and still is nearly a year later.

Apologies for typo I meant Globber 3 in 1. They also have a 4 in 1 which has a full bracket to keep them secure.

Dermadirj · 28/07/2023 15:22

@EMC2022 thanks for the tip on the truck over the coupe! I've amended the birthday list!

Is it the globber explorer 4-in-1 you've got?

We have a Triclimb with a slide - they're expensive and tbh ours doesn't really get enough use. My DC love climbing and I thought they'd love it but actually they prefer climbing on stuff they're not supposed to! Agree with PP about it becoming an expensive car ramp, and also with the suggestion of a 3-in-1 microscooter. If you get a mini micro scooter I'd recommend getting a folding version so you can put it under the buggy as you'll forever be carrying it around...

EMC2022 · 28/07/2023 15:55

I haven't actually gotten it yet. I'm also just making the list but I plan on getting the 4 in 1 so I can use it to walk the roads without him being able to hop off and then it should hopefully last a while until he gets to the balance bike in a year or so!

Bubble machine would be the winner here, too. One of those push along bubble lawnmower types 👍

Toddler101 · 28/07/2023 16:29

There's even a little tikes mini cosy coupe bubble machine walker push along thingy! Aces!

Yes we do @Dermadirj ! I can't remember exactly what age we bought it at, but we went straight to the main scooter rather than the seat, but for a younger child the seat looks really handy. And it's great if they refuse the pram too!

We got a micro for my little's 2nd birthday but gifted it early around 20m so they could get summer use of it. One year later and it's only just starting to get regular use! I recommend buying a scooter-strap to go with it so you can drag them along and assist with steering/stopping.
