Worried about 14 month old

Some days my 14 month old ds seems to lack energy. He's been like this today. Keeps rubbing his eyes and coming over to sit on me or wants picked up. He still plays and enjoys things, but just with less energy. His temperature is fine and he's eating and drinking normally. He's napping now and been asleep for 2 and a half hours which is very long for him. Normally his naps are 1 - 2 hours. He had a good sleep too, 12 hours with a couple of wake ups, which is normal for him.

I suspected maybe an iron deficiency, but he's only like this every now and then not all the time. Has anyone else had young toddlers like this? Not sure if it's normal or not, he's my only child, so don't have any other experience of children this age to compare to.

How many naps are they having a day, one or two? It’s about the age they usually transition from two naps to one so it’s not unusual for them to be tired during the change, also they’re going through such rapid development at this age. If they are playing as well and moving around (crawling or walking?) and seem to be developing then I wouldn’t worry, but you could always call your health visitor and ask for a visit?

@Sotired22 he's been on 1 nap for a couple of months now. He's awake now and had some milk and seems OK. My dh thinks he's fine. I do worry a lot more than he does. If ds is same tomorrow I might phone the hv to put my mind at ease. He did well at our last hv appointment development wise so I'm not worried about that thankfully!

Also have a 14 month old and some days he can seem to have very little energy - Sunday he had a 3 hr nap and when he woke up was very cuddly (not like that usually - he's normally bouncing around the room!) Eating, drinking fine.

Hes been on and off like that for about 3 days. Today though apparently he's been full of beans at the childminders!

I think its the 2 to 1 nap for us. They are learning so many new things at this age too and it's tiring for them.

FTM also so i get the worry. It sounds like it's development but It doesn't hurt to call/message the HV or GP if you ever have any concern.

All sounds ok to me (I have 3 kids), he went to one nap quite young so might just be tired if some days his nap is only one hour. It’s normal for his nap to be 2 hours plus if he’s only having one per day. But obviously follow your instincts if you think something might be wrong, however what you’ve described sounds pretty normal 😊

When mine was 14 months he still needed 2 naps a day. Maybe he’s not ready for one nap? And a 2/3 hour nap at that age is nothing to worry about. My boy is 16 months now and has a 2/3 hour nap everyday.
