Advice for reflux and constipation with baby

Hi all, hoping someone can offer on what to try. 7 week old little boy, he was on kendamil after birth which made him incredibly constipated and refluxy, HV advised to try comfort milk. The comfort milk stopped the constipation but the reflux and sick was still an issue so suggested lactose free milk, that one made everything worse until finally the GP thinks he has an allergy to cows milk and has him on nutramigen on prescription.

Not sure what the heck is going on or what to try. Little man is awake for hours straight without sleeping (day and night) maybe 20 mins if he’s lucky, the other day he was awake from 9:45am till 7pm😳 I’m sure that’s not normal , poor baba is hardly sleeping, so unsettled, screeching, crying. Myself and my fiancé have tried everything we can think of (swaddling, pram, bouncer, rocker, on side, back, belly, walking around, being held, slings, pram walks) and he just won’t sleep. We’re all absolutely exhausted and we’re sure the constipation and reflux is what’s doing it though obviously not a GP so can’t be sure

Has anyone been through this or can offer advise on what to try x

Need to add, he’s on infant gaviscon too

May need stronger reflux meds? How long have you been on the gaviscon for and has that made any improvement?

Gavison can cause constipation. Try doctor again and ask for Omeprazole. My little boy went through similar even the same milk. He ended up being settled on Hipp organic. Also look up probiotic baby drops on amazon they helped too. I know how hard it is but you will get it sorted. It’s all trial and error 😭

We had issues with similar.
held baby all night most nights to get through it.

not sure about formula milk because we ebf but you should check the bottle you’re using and that colic isn’t at play too.

gaviscon made no difference for us. It was awful.
it does pass though.
recline the crib slightly too. Contact naps and sleep were the only way for us.

glad it’s worked for you, horrible seeing them in pain. I’ve seen hipp anti reflux get mentioned a few times on forums x

horrible isn’t it. I tried bf but he was losing weight and not taking to it. He’s on Nuk bottles. Naps and sleep are harder as we have other children at home so it’s not an easy stage for us at moment

Any other signs of cows milk allergy?
stuffy Nose, rash, eczema? Family history of it.

it could be that gaviscon just isn’t working and you need something like omeprazole.

mam bottles are really good for colic

I switched to Hipp Organic from Aptamil with my first and he was a lot better on it. Second time around we went straight for Hipp Organic and mam bottles and no real issues although from 4/5 months we discovered he has a dairy intolerance.

my knowledge is brief but I’m pretty sure nutramigen still contains some dairy in it but it’s just broken down further so easier to digest. I believe neocate is one of the ones that is completely dairy free. But don’t quite me on that. I just know from joining CMPA groups that this sort of thing was mentioned about a lot.
