Hi everyone

I'm considering a 3rd child (my husband will probably say no, but I'm putting together my case!!!).

If you have 3 or more children, what are you age gaps please?

3 years and 3 months between 1 & 2.
3 years and 3 months between 2 & 3.
Fifteen and a half months between 3 &4.
3 years and 3 months between 4 & 5.

11 years between DC1 and DC5.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 22/07/2023 16:39

We have three. 20 months and then 3 years 9 months. So 5.5 years exactly start to finish. I’d probably have spaced them a little more evenly 2.5 years apart given a choice but it works pretty well and they’re still close enough to play together and be a fun little gang.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/07/2023 16:41

2 years 10 months between DS1 and DS2
2 years 2 months between DS2 and DS3

so almost exactly 5 years between DS1 and DS3!

4.5 years in total between 1 and 3.
3.5 years between 1 and 2.
12 months between 2 and 3 😬

Dyra · 22/07/2023 21:33

I'm only 2 kids in myself (2 years, 6 months, 7 days gap. I also need to convince DH for a third), but I'm one of five, and these are our age gaps.

DC1 to DC2 2 years 2 months 8 days
DC2 to DC3 1 year 8 months 16 days
DC3 to DC4 2 years 9 months 26 days
DC4 to DC5 6 years and 14 days

Rysimo · 22/07/2023 21:35

DS1-DS2 10 years.
DS2-DS3 3 years.

Usernameunknownfornow · 22/07/2023 21:39

Why would it matter what our age gaps are? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just genuinely asking. Everyone will experience age gaps differently

Callmemummynotmaaa · 22/07/2023 21:39

All going well, I’ll have 3 under 4.
gap between 1&2 = 16 months
gap between 2&3 = 2.5 ish years
BUT I’d have loved it to be smaller. Had losses before this bump. Working, and kids share a room. Usually fine but tonight they won’t sleep (grr)

Chchchanging · 22/07/2023 21:43

19m between DS1 and DS2
23m between DS2 and DD
3 under 4 was tough but also fun and it's been great with them growing up.. Still good now all older teens.

sydenhamhiller · 22/07/2023 21:46

19, 17 and 11.

had miscarriage or would have been 19, 17 and 13.

littlemisslozza · 22/07/2023 21:49

23 months between DC1 and 2.
2 years almost to the say between DC2 and 3.

I had 3 under 4 for a few weeks. A crazy, but good few years however we are lucky to have grandparents living locally and good support. They are now teenagers and it seems to have flown by.

HappyMarriage · 22/07/2023 21:50

18 months between 1 and 2
2yrs 9 months between 2 and 3
22 months between 3 and 4

So had them all in 6 years, it’s intense but wonderful to have them all close together imo

RandomMess · 22/07/2023 21:52

4 DC

New relationship between 1&2/3/4

5.5 years
14 months
23 months

8.5 years in total

All adults now and "close enough" they are very different personalities and have different hobbies etc but they are there for each other.

Favourite gap was the 14 month one.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 22/07/2023 21:55

1 year 10 months between DC 1 and 2
2 years 8 months between DC 2 and 3

4.5 years between eldest and youngest.

It has worked brilliantly :) <2 year gap a bit mad at times, but >2.5 years was great. I had a very happy summer with a nearly 5, just 3 and 6 month old - we were out and about loads.

Vettrianofan · 22/07/2023 21:57

3y3m, 5y2m and 23m.

4dc in ten years.

vdbfamily · 22/07/2023 22:05

22 months between 1&2
20 months between 2&3
2 x 12 wk losses between 1&2 so could have been closer together. Chaos for a few years and then settled down a bit!

Wheredowegonoww · 22/07/2023 22:10

3 years between DS and twins

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 22/07/2023 22:18

14 months.

18 months.

3 under 3. We nearly died. But they adore each other and its paid off now. Same interests, tv programmes, days out etc.

PinkPlantCase · 22/07/2023 22:21

We are planning 3 but haven’t got there yet.

DC1 -DC2 2 years 5 months

DC2 - DC 3 we’ll probably aim for a 3-4 year gap. We have time. I had first DC when I was 26. There’s a chance we’ll change our minds and go for a 2 ish year gap again but I think I’d like to get more of a feel for how finances and general life works with 2 before taking the plunge for a 3rd. We both work full time and I’m not sure I can wrap my head around the idea of childcare/wrap around care for 3, best case scenario would be a nanny. I

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/07/2023 22:26

1-2, 1y 2m
2-3, 1y 9m
3-4, 2y 4m
4-5, 2y 1m.

The gap between dc1 & dc5 is 7 years, 4 months. Youngest is just about to turn 6 & it's great. Seeing the young people they're becoming is amazing, I definitely enjoy it more the more they grow. 90% of the time all 5 get on well, occasional bickering but nothing awful, they're quite different personalities but have certain likes/interests in common with each other at the same time, which I think helps.

14 month gap is my favourite too @RandomMess but I don't think my body would have thanked me if I'd done it for dc3-5 though

BertieBotts · 22/07/2023 22:32

Rysimo · 22/07/2023 21:35

DS1-DS2 10 years.
DS2-DS3 3 years.

Exactly the same!

Helleboring · 22/07/2023 22:33

DC1 to DC2: 3 years 7 months
DC2 to DC3: 13 years 8 months
All with same DH

RandomMess · 22/07/2023 22:35

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints no I don't think my body was too impressed tbh!

DC3 had undiagnosed silent reflux so the first year was truly awful otherwise I think there would have been a smaller gap than 23 months, actually it took a couple of months to conceive so would have been 20/21 months.

weegiemum · 22/07/2023 22:36

Dd1 to ds - 2 years (to within 3 days!!)
Ds to dd2 - 22 months.

So I had 3 under 4, which was pretty full on for a while, especially with my pnd and physical health problems after dd2.

Now they're 23, 21 and 19 and all get on pretty well, the girls especially.

MrsHazel · 22/07/2023 22:38

Thirty seconds, and then three years.

The second gap was a LOT easier.
