15 month old - transitioning off formula issues

I’ve tried multiple times to transition off formula to whole milk, semi skimmed milk and even oat milk. Every time he gets skin rashes and really bad nappy rash, so I’ve had to transition back to formula because I can’t put him through it. He’s fine with yoghurts and a little of milk in cereal but as soon as you go to 4oz or more I run into problems, and I’ve done this gradual over weeks it’s not just big bang. Anyone experienced similar? What was it? How did you transition off formula?

He only needs 350 mg of calcium a day from all sources so he doesn’t need to be drinking more then 4oz, or even any milk, as long as he gets enough calcium.

At this age they don't need any milk to drink, I was always told roughly three sources of calcium a day - porridge, a yogurt and a bit of cheese would do it. If they're fine not drinking formula I wouldn't bother trying to get them to drink cows milk.

I’m not ready to stop giving the morning and night bottle, he enjoys both and stopping isn’t really finding the root cause but appreciate the insight

Have you tried water in the bottle? If he like the bottle action but too much milk isn't working? L

Bottles aren't recommended after they turn 1 as they damage teeth. Move him on to a free flow beaker for all liquids and just make sure he has 3 portions of dairy per day.

You might need to gradually introduce milk in to his diet.

What formula is he on?

My baby is 17 months. He still wakes and feed through the night, so will have a bottle of formula. Formula to go to sleep at night and nap, formula in the morning. Cows milk at other times throughout the day.

I know I need to scale it down, but he likes it and isn't massive on food. He's not going to be 5 and on primarily milk so I'm not worried, just going with the flow.

He doesn't have dairy from other sources, generally some pasta, some vege sticks, crackers, sandwich bits like that throughout the day, he's a picker not a spoon to mouth sort of eater.

Op what's the rush to get off formula? My little one has follow in milk.
