Newborn wants more formula milk than stated

My 2 week old baby is formula fed and the box states 5-6 feeds a day. However, she wants more than this and is fed every 2-3.5 hours. Is this a problem?

Congratulations 🎉! Don't worry about the box, we just fed on demand. They're just guidelines and every baby will be different.

It’s a guide. As long as you are paced feeding then feed on demand.

I used to feed mine every 3 hours in the day and 4 hours at night (if they lasted that long, if not I'd feed earlier). How long are you generally going between feeds?

Mine was 7am/10am/1pm/4pm/7pm/11pm/3am

Never looked at how many feeds I was advised to give - they have teeny tummies so expecting them to eat less than the above seems odd.

Most babies want little and often. Feed on demand especially at that young age.

It’s fine to give more often… my DS needed it more frequently than 3hrs. Usually between 2 to 2.5 hours. But at only 2 weeks old it may be even more frequent than that.

I think the box is usually wrong for newborn babies as they need feeding every 2-3 hours so what you describe is totally normal. Mine was still feeding every 3hr during the day until weaning or even later although night feeds be became more spaced out.
