Has anyone's dc been night-trained before the age of 3?

Dd has been potty training for a week and has had a dry nappy for the last four or five nights when she gets up in the morning. She's 2.6. Is it worth giving it a go or is this just a phase? I could be smug but it nothing to do with me!

it is very possible. My dd2 is the same age and dry every night, but she wakes up in the night to use the potty

nannyjo · 25/02/2008 15:27

My DS was night trained before Day!!! He's 3 yrs 4 months and still has many accidents!!! AAAArgh but hasn't had one at night ever since 3.

PetitFilou1 · 25/02/2008 15:27

Belgo thanks - I would be so pleased. One less thing to do when no3 arrives in August (unless dd reacts to that of course...)

My friends little boy was trained day and night from 18-20 months - so definately possilbe. So if dd is dry, then jsut go for it. Consider whether getting wet all over her PJs would knock her confidence - might be worth getting some potty training pants of stuffable cloth nappies/princess pull ups etc just in case there is a leak until you are sure she's got it.

TartanKnickers · 25/02/2008 15:28

Yes, my dd was about that age 2 years and 3 months. She was dry at night just after being dry in the day.

DS1 on the other hand is 6 and still to have a dry night! Aaaaarrrrrggghhh!!!

JingleyJen · 25/02/2008 15:29

yep ds1 he was about 2 years 7/8 months

pagwatch · 25/02/2008 15:29

My DD was but I take no credit for it - I was very surprised.
She was about 2 1/2. She didn't potty train until then as I really hadn't got around to it . But she announced that she didn't want nappies anymore and wanted pant. She was clean and dry from then on and a few days later said she didn't want a nappy in bed either.
She has never once had an accident. Never.
It is pretty freaky actually. Seriously freaky.

PetitFilou1 · 25/02/2008 15:30

Potpourri she is wearing 'pink fairy pants' (Huggies potty training pull ups) at night already. I agree with you, I'll stick with those until I'm sure...

Dd trained at 22mo and was dry at night at the same time. Bar a UTI, she's been dry ever since.

Ds1 trained at 2.5 and was also dry at night immediately.

I think it just happens in some kids.

dd was the same - dry during the day at about 2.9ish and dry at night within a week. We just left the nappies off and have had maybe three or four wet beds since... not one wet bed in the last 6 months.

"I could be smug but it nothing to do with me!" I was the same - I was prepared for months or even years of nappies at night but she got the control at night without any prompting from us at all.

needmorecoffee · 25/02/2008 15:32

yeah, all 3 of my older ones. But way back then (10 years ago) it was common to be dry day and night between 2 and 3. Seems a bit more relaxed now.
I did put mattress covers down though but we never had any accidents.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/02/2008 15:33

Both mine were night trained a month or so after day time training.

Although "training" rather implies some positive action on my part, whereas in fact it just sort of happened.

Twinkie1 · 25/02/2008 15:36

We did DS day and night together - I had no idea that you were supposed to do them seperately!

doggiesayswoof · 25/02/2008 15:38

Dd was dry in the day at 2.8 and dry at night about a month later (it just happened -her nappy was always dry in the morning so we just went with it)

She's only had about 3 accidents at night since then, all while she was ill.

izzybiz · 25/02/2008 15:39

My Ds was dry in the day by age 2 and at night by 2 and a half.

Dd was dry in the day by about2 but she is now 3.9 and still soaking every morning.

I didn't "train" either of them.

Flibbertyjibbet · 25/02/2008 15:39

Also a month or so after day training, at 2.6yo.
He twigged pretty quick that if he's in a nappy he can wee. If no nappy then he goes to the toilet.
Might have been some wet beds at first but I reckon that was just part of the process
Fingers xd for the same breeze of it with ds2 later this year.

Wolfgirl · 25/02/2008 15:50

my DS was dry pretty much straight after potty training, at the age of 2. He wore pull up night time nappy things from 2 - 3, but always dry. so from 3 till now, he goes without.

Now, I could plump me feathers and coo-coo like a male peacock on heat, but it was nothing to do with us, or training. It just happened.

Now DD is another matter. She is 26 months and wont even look or entertain a potty, she wont talk and grunts at everything, and she is very undisciplined. She is a very very naughty little girl

Fennel · 25/02/2008 15:57

All 3 of mine were dry at night a couple of weeks after being dry in the day. I don't know why, they just all were, naturally. They all said they didn't want to wear a nappy to bed so we took it off and they wre fine. Two of them were younger than your dd is now.

pedilia · 25/02/2008 16:00

DS2 was out of nappies completly by 2 2/2, he is now 3 and has the very occasional accident but not often.

sparklesandwine · 25/02/2008 16:02

yes give it a go - well done!!

all of mine were dry pretty much straight away tbh

I used to put them on the loo before they went to bed and then would also pick them up alseep and put them on the loo before we went to bed for the first week few weeks. I also used to put Pampers care mats under them just incase but they rarely had accidents

Good Luck!

purpleduck · 25/02/2008 16:17

my kids were dry right away as well at about the same age too I'd give it a go

SammyC · 25/02/2008 16:27

I was in the same situ as you, began to put my Dd to bed without nappy and then lifted her when I went to bed, this worked a treat, she remained dry at night. i stopped lifting after a couple of weeks and she had the potty in her room for a bit and then slowly moved it closer to the loo. I didnt give my Dd any drink after 6 at the beginning. Good Luck with it!

meemar · 25/02/2008 16:30

DS1 did this - we kept the nappy on for a month or so but after it was consistently dry we ditched the nappies.

He was 2.6 and remained dry at night.

Agree that it wasn't 'training' as such - he just did it and it took us by surprise!

alysonpeaches · 25/02/2008 19:17

Freya is 2years 2 months and surprised us by becoming dry at night at the same time as daytime dryness. She refused a night nappy, we crossed our fingers and she was ok. She has asked for the potty once or twice at night, but its a small price to pay.

I think its our reward for her brother taking so long to train.
