My 3 year old had his 4in1 and MMR booster this morning. When we went in, I enthusiastically told the nurse about his flu vaccine, where he wanted to watch and didn’t cry. The nurse then went on to tell DS she was impressed and if he didn’t cry today, he’d be the first little boy she’d come across that didn’t!

First vaccine went in, second one must have hurt as I saw his little face change. No tears, but by this point I think he’s holding them in!

As soon as we are done, I cuddle him and tell him he can cry if he wants to, mummy and daddy cry, everybody does and it’s ok to feel sad etc

He had a wobbly lip but still no tears, and I’m scared I’ve instilled in him that in order to be brave, you can’t cry!! Boys can indeed cry!!

I really wouldn’t worry, you haven’t come anything wrong. It’s one event in his life and he’s only 3, he won’t remember this in a week let alone it having an impact on his emotions and crying when he wants to or doesn’t want. I’d not talk about it again, move on, and just support him on the next occasion when he does cry.
