Nappy leakage up back every night

Hi - we became parents for the first time last week, which has been a whirlwind of happiness and emotion.

our little guy is currently wearing size 0 nappies which work 90% of the time, but each night when I wake him up to feed he’s had a wee which has leaked up his back and through his clothes.

im not sure what I’m doing wrong. The nappies don’t leak in the day really. I make sure they are tight, I make sure the wings are out etc, but i can’t crack it. I also tried size 1 nappies to give some more absorption but they don’t fit around his leg.

any idea what I’m doing wrong? Im sure it’s human error so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I had this with my little boy.

Realised I needed to make sure his willy was pointing down when I closed his nappy. Otherwise he would wee "upwards" and it would end up over his tummy and leaking down his back.

Willy down and also use Pampers. We never had leaks with Pampers but did with other brands at night

Also might be worth going up a size in vests, as the nappy needs room to expand when it gets full. If the vest is too tight it had nowhere to go but to leak.

Obviously not for everyone but we've not had many leaks with reusable nappies. We use disposables occasionally when travelling and still can't get the hang of getting them to contain poo up the back!

Use cloth nappies, as they're infinitely more adjustable both in size and in absorbency. Pick a 2 part system eg Mother-ease Sandy's + Airflow wrap and you'll never get any leaks as you have 2 barriers at both the legs AND the waist -few disposables bother with elastic at the waist to keep the cost down. My eldest had matchsticks for legs and these were a life saver, never had leaks, gave them to a friend after and we both reckon we had LESS washing despite washing nappies, as no bedding or clothing to wash.

Sandys by Motherease

I had this alot when mine was tiny . I found it happens most if tapes aren't done tight enough but also when he needed to go up a size too

Mamabear04 · 12/07/2023 13:25

It's a boy thing! Penis down, pampers at night and put him in a vest size up from what he usually wears. Also if that doesn't work then up a size in his baby grow and put socks on top of the baby grow so he doesn't turn into a merbaby during the night (he'll wiggle and his legs will get trapped in the bodice). This things worked over night with our DS!

Jendrw5 · 12/07/2023 13:39

This happened with my boy at that age too, we tried the mamia nappies and thought they were good at that size. He's a size 4 now and 14 months old and he's started leaking again every night, but we now use pampers and they've been excellent so far, so you could maybe give them a go.

Pampers baby dry everytime

Heartbreaktuna · 12/07/2023 13:54

Happened all the time with my DS. Tried everything. It didn't stop until he was old enough to wear nappy pants.

Tiredjoanna · 12/07/2023 13:56

Yes I use the night time pampers nappy pants, be lost without them🤣

Newdaddy2023 · 18/07/2023 20:49

Thanks all for your tips - pampers number 1 and some re-learning on how to tighten a nappy and we’re now having leak-free nights!

Size one can be a bit big to start with fold down the front slightly and use the velcro to secure and make a poo pocket at the back by folding the pamper half a centimetre down towards the inside of the nappy. This will help catch most of the poo if it goes up the back.

I'm in the same situation. My LO is exploding out of some 0 but still too small for size 1.

Make sure his penis is pointing down! Best tip I ever learnt. And congratulations 🎊
