Summer holidays with a toddler

I work part time and toddler does attend childcare but I am a bit worried about the summer holidays.

I am due a baby at the end of July so not sure how much I’ll be able to get out and about. Toddler groups and parks are normally our salvation for breaking the day up but these aren’t on in the summer.

Is it just me who finds it tough? Last year we managed fairly well so I’m probably overthinking it!

Can you get bits in garden to make easy home entertainment.

My 3 year old is occupied quite a while with small paddling pool and umbrella above, sandpit with diggers etc, and mud kitchen.

Thanks - the garden is fairly well equipped. Just somehow feels like a very long day at home.

No not just you, neither of mine are in school yet and I always hate the school hols. We mostly go to church playgroups during term time which aren't on in the hols.

Things we do in hols:

  • Pray hard the weather is dry so we can do parks. I'm really lucky that there's 3 parks with playgrounds within easy walking distance of my house and another two a longer walk away. Picnics, feeding ducks/birds, playgrounds, eldest takes scooter sometimes, balls, bubble wands, get an ice cream, ornamental gardens etc.
  • Library. I have two within walking distance.
  • Visit my DPs who live within walking distance and have lunch there, they also have a garden (we don't) and a water table there for the kids.
  • Have playdates at our house or friend's houses with other young kids.
  • One local park has a funfair in it over the hols.
  • Play at home!
  • Local softplay in nice weather day early in the morning is usually almost empty.
