Hi, I have been prescribed amitriptaline for migraine induced dizziness. It has taken me a few months to convince myself to take one as hate the idea of taking chemicals everyday. I took one last night and now feel even more dizzy, totally spaced out and have 3 children to look after. Do I keep going with them or do I stop taking? How long does it take to feel better on them? Will I feel even worse tomorrow? Any thoughts welcome thanks.....

I'd keep going. I get vestibular migraines and was prescribed this three years ago. Took 3 weeks to settle side effects but it's been very very effective in controlling my migraines. Best of luck x

Jumping in here but can I ask if the dizziness continues after the actual pain? I’ve had the migraine since Saturday, pain gone but dizzy still. The vestibular side of it is new to me although on and off migraines for years. Appreciate any feedback..🙂

Thanks both. Julwri - I always used to get normal migraines with dizziness but now I get the dizziness for a month or so at a time but no pain. But don't worry - sure your dizziness will go.

I only get the dizziness, no pain. I get quite nasty vertigo spins that only last a few seconds. Then I'm left with a dizzy feeling for up to a week x

Saltrocking - thanks and poor you. Do you know what sets it off? I am wondering if mine is migraine or post covid. What were your side effects from the amitriptaline? I felt so awful yesterday having taken it and now have a migraine! Not sure I can face taking up again- did the side effects get worse then better in the 3 weeks or was day 1 the worse? Thanks

I take it long term for bladder related pain. The side effects do wear off the longer you take it for. The ideal time to take it is around 1-2 hours before bed; then it helps you sleep and wears off by the morning. I find it really helps me, I couldn’t manage without it.

I have taken 3 at night for 4 years now I found that I couldn’t take mine any later than 8pm max or I will be groggy like a hangover the next day anything before that and I’ve slept it off and wake fine
