Hi all,
After about a year of really bad sleep, culminated in hours of night-time crying in April (just before he turned 1), due to all 4 of his 1st molars coming out at the same time, our DS showed us he was able to sleep well!
For about two months, he went to sleep easily in his toddler bed, in his own room. He would wake up 1-2 times per night, for a bit of water and some cuddles - then back to sleep with no fuss, until around 5-6 when he'd wake up for a feed (he's still breastfed) and then back down until 7/7:30, just in time for nursery! A couple of times he actually slept for the whole night, 9pm to 6am!
Then in mid-June he had three days of fever... and everything went bad again: only mum can put him to sleep (dad gets pushed away out of the door), and he wakes up 3-4 times per night and wants to sleep with mum, more often than not at the boob. Today he went to bed after crying for 20 minutes and trying to take mum's top off to get to the boob! He's very unsettled at the breast anyway, flopping around and changing nipple every 10 seconds, and doesn't really help him fall asleep... so a bit pointless for everyone involved and surely not a pleasant experience.
Usual bedtime is between 8 and 9, depending on his nap (he only has one, 2 hours long). We've tried putting him to bed earlier (7/7:30), but he just played until 9. The time he went to sleep at 7:30, he then woke up at 11 crying for the breast!
We don't want to sleep train, but it's getting harder and harder for us, especially after having tasted some days of beautiful, uninterrupted sleep... Has anyone been through this? Any advice other than "wait for this phase to pass"?
