Optibac Baby Probiotic Drops for colic - experiences?

Hi,

My 5 week old daughter has been unsettled in the evenings since she was born. She has now been diagnosed with CMPA and has been on Aptamil Pepti formula for the past 3 weeks which has made a huge difference, she’s a lot more settled and the painful cries have reduced massively. However she still has a fussy couple of hours in the evening which I’m sure is down to trapped wind. I’ve read good things about probiotic drops helping trapped wind/colic/constipation and was wondering if anyone has any experiences using these? I’ve bought Optibac drops and have been giving her these for the last 6 days but not noticing much of a difference. I was hoping somebody could share their own experiences, if the drops made a difference and how long it took to see a difference?

Thanks!

Hi OP - how are you getting on with the Optibac drops? My DD is 7 weeks and last few days has had awful trapped wind. She has been on Optibac for a few days but I've not noticed a difference. Infacol seems to have lost its effectiveness also so not sure whether to fry gripe water or Colief next.

Hi my son took optibac as a baby but it was to help 'reset' his stomach whilst investigating for a dairy allergy. I didn't find the drops helped with trapped wind but infacol and gripe water did massively. I've just had my 2nd baby who is now 3 months old and they're both also working great for him. The infacol is before a bottle so if he's having a rough day I use that and then if he's been ok/normal all morning but is in visible discomfort come the afternoon, I'll give him some gripe water which gets things moving. He's bottle fed so I've alps found swirling the bottle vigorously instead of shaking helps stop the air/bubbles forming which has made a difference too.

Also don't forget about the witching hour!! My first son didn't do it but my second is and it was tough! He would cry and winge even when full, winded and clean nappy. We would stand up and rock him, listening to music which helped until he exhausted himself to sleep. Thankfully he's stopped now 🤞🏻

Hi! Sorry for the late response, I haven’t checked the app in a while. My daughter is now 11 weeks and is so much more settled. I found after around 2 weeks of using the drops we noticed a huge difference, but it was around the same time she started having really good naps in the day so I wonder whether the fussy time in the evening was down to overtiredness!? Who knows. But I’ve carried on giving her the drops as I know they can be good for her immune system so they won’t hurt. I will say there was a time a few weeks ago where I forgot to give her the drops for a few days and she had a really fussy couple of days following that, could have been a coincidence or could have been down to the drops! Hope your little one is getting on better with the trapped wind now. I’ve had great results with both of my children with colief. I also give my daughter Infacol before her bottle and that helps massively with bringing up wind.
