How old your LO was when you stopped doing skin to skin regularly? Days/weeks/months?

I stopped doing it "regularly" after the first couple of weeks I think, but continued to do skin to skin with them when they were unwell until they were about 6/7 years old.

Same as PP. I wasn't really doing it much past 3 months as I stopped breastfeeding then and found myself not laying around topless that often. My DD,4,still sleeps with me most nights so sometimes after a bath we're both not wearing much and cuddle In bed over night.

Skin to skin will be important all through childhood. It just reduces with time depending on the mother and child.

If you and baby are both OK with it, keep going. If not, do what is best for you.

I'm breastfeeding my 4 month old so keeping it up at the moment. I stopped breastfeeding my first around 3 months so it greatly reduced but usually before bed we'd have a cuddle wih just the nappy on for some skin to skin till about 1

TinyTeacher · 05/07/2023 19:33

Depends if breastfeeding counts. I didn't deliberately do it aside from feeding once they were home from SCBU! But we snuggled up for cluster feeding every evening for some time. It was winter weather so none of us were deliberately unclothed!

DD is 3 and half, we still do skin to skin if she asks, but generally only asks if she notices I'm topless, in bed on a Sunday morning, if I have dressing gown on with no top after a shower!
If it's appropriate and your both happy why stop?

Years.

My son is 6 and we still have a skin to skin cuddle if he's feeling lousy.

RedRobyn2021 · 05/07/2023 20:57

What constitutes as skin-to-skin?

I'm still breastfeeding DD she's 2 but I don't sit around topless anymore. Occasionally we share a bath and she likes coming for a cuddle, does that count?

SouthLondonMum22 · 05/07/2023 21:00

Birth but other than that I’ve never sat around topless with my baby if that’s what you mean.

Justputitdown · 05/07/2023 21:02

I try and do skin to skin with mine now and then and they're 1 and 3. I love it and they love it. It's good for them, I think.

Me too! Obviously breastfeeding but beyond that never heard of skin-to-skin beyond newborn stage.

Maybe it's more of a thing since I had DC?

Mine is 7 months but I never breastfed so I thought that was why. Lots of cuddles, of course but always with a top. 😂

I don't cuddle my toddler topless either! Didn't know it was a thing
