Blood in baby poo

My 16 week old baby had small bits of blood in her poo on several occasions in the last month. Saw GP after the first time and got examined and tested for infections - all negative. I tried to explore the allergy hypothesis but GP didn’t think it was relevant as my LO has no worrying symptoms. I just have a feeling something’s not quite right as she still has a poo 5-7 times every 24hs, has at least one (explosion) in the night - often two, when most babies her age go a couple of times a day from what I see. Her poos are often with mucus and smell acidic - I’ve seen stories of babies getting diagnosed with cow milk allergy after weaning when their only symptoms before weaning were excessive pooing, mucus, acidic smell and bits of blood. I saw another GP this morning and got dismissed (and she read about infant formula on the NHS website when i asked if it’s worth trying alternatives…) - I don’t know where to go from here. LO is otherwise healthy, happy, growing well. Anyone had similar? x

Hello! Sorry to hear about your DC, must be very distressing for you. We had this issue when my DD was 4 weeks, plus redux vomiting and very upset baby. Took her to the GP and was dismissed, but then spoke to the HV who put us on a trial of cows milk protein free formula which sorted out the poo (but not the sick sadly, that only stopped a month ago). Try and contact your HV and see what they can do.

Thank you @fatpenguin10, sorry your little one had troubles too. Will speak to HV

Hi, my 11 week old son also has blood in his poo. This is now in every nappy and has been for the last week. The doctor has tested for bacterial infection but negative and checked him in general. The breastfeeding midwife and health visitor have advised keeping a food diary to see if anything triggers it... I'm currently- desperately- avoiding dairy and eggs. Anyone have any ideas? I want it to stop!
