Tips for getting toddler on toilet

Hello, we finally cracked the potty, ds was scared of it and still is when it comes to number 2s but uses it fine now. However we are late starting as I've really struggled with him being so head strong and now I need to get him using the toilet by September.

Any tips ? I've got a ladder type seat that sits on the seat with a built in step but he's not keen. He knows we all use the toilet, watches ect and I've managed to sit him on it with the lid down but he will not sit on it with lid up (even with seat) he's been to school and I tried to sit him on the small ones and he just tells me no.

He is the type of kid who if he can't use potty he will literally hold it in all day.

Can you put the potty inside the toilet to start with ?

Have you tried bribery? Often works a treat, and you can start winding down the reward once the fear is gone.

How old ishe?

There are story books that might help. My eldest really struggled with poos on the loo. We used to read "monkey business" only when she was on the loo. Did the trick.

I'd tell him the potty fairy is coming to take his potties as he's a big boy now and there are babies who need those potties.

Overnight the potty fairy swaps the potties for a special big boy present. Potties are gone. Eventually he'll have to use the toilet.

@DustyLee123 No it's a small downstairs loo, I think I'd risk accidents if I took it up stairs. I'm moving it slowly to the utility which is where the loo is.

@CoalCraft Ill have a try, think it's worn off the whole treat thing now, he only needed a week of it to get him to go potty but he is older.

@TinyTeacher He is 3, he's been a bit delayed with speech, I think that's why it's taken us so long. He knows what it's for he's just stubborn. Ill have a look thank you.

@NuffSaidSam He's been a bit delayed in speech and this process. He's very strong willed and I think he knows what he has to do and that we use the toilet but he just panics. I think he'd have a melt down if I did it.
