6 month old hates granny, my MIL

My DS is 6 months old, loves meeting people and giggling/smiling at everyone he meets. This includes my family who live in another country and have only visited twice.

But he absolutely hates his granny, my MIL! As soon as he sees her he just scrunches up his face, really weeps and sobs with loads of tears and screams. Then he'll look at his grandad, my FIL, and he starts smiling again. Then screams at granny again.

She's helped since he was born and we see her a few times a week so she's not a stranger. It's just getting embarrassing by this point because it's now clear that it's just her he hates!

Has anyone else dealt with this? I'll be returning to work in a few weeks and she's supposed to be minding him but I don't know if she can if he's this terrified of her! Any advice?

Does she wear strong perfume?

Yes a friends little girl didn't like me. Cried everytime she saw me without fail. Grew out of it by the age of three or so. Her other two were complete opposite and we got along great from day 1.

I seem to remember her saying she wore light blue perfume by dolce and gabbana which I don't think is strong (like say chanel no. 5 might be), but that might be it? She does have short, naturally red spiky hair, that could be a bit scary?! Which is funny because he inherited her red hair!

@WetBandits you're absolutely right and I should stop using the word hate! I really hope he just needs time to get used to her. Tbf she's been very understanding and calm about it. It's just that after 6 months it's starting to seem like he's made his mind up to scream whenever she appears! 😅

Could be the hair or the smell. They go through phases of this, but they get used to people
