Am doing some birthday present shopping for DD who's going to be 2 this July - so, hit me with your favourite books!

Current favourites are Julia Donaldson, which we already have a vast array of - but looking for something that me and DH will enjoy too hopefully!

My DD2 loves the Pip & Posy books

I really love reading her Jill Murphy's book Meltdown, we've borrowed it from the library a few times and every time it becomes more relatable 😂 also she is transfixed when we read it

Also love the potty/toilet training book Poo Poo Bum Bum Wee Wee, we sing it all the time. My DD is potty trained now but still love to read it.

All the Mog books by Judith Kerr.
Dr Zeus

AuntieJune · 01/07/2023 20:47

Something a little bit different - a great big cuddle is a Michael Rosen poetry collection aimed at young kids, mine loved it and still do years later! Lots of nice rhythms and talking about things kids can relate to.

Jez albrough popular here too. And the Usborne lift the flap books - my kids loved anything with flaps at about that age.

Shirley hughes' Alfie books are great too

The Bustletown books are great. No words but loads to look at and talk about. DD loves to get them out and go through the different seasons.

Namechangedforspooky · 01/07/2023 20:54

Any of the Nick Sharatt books (I prefer them to Julia Donaldson)

Also I dare you not to yawn
Both my dds loved the Lulu books

Diddykong · 01/07/2023 20:57

Anything by Simon James. Frog and beaver is a big hit my with DC.

Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson. My teenagers can still recount it word for word, great bedtime read as melodic.

pinguins · 01/07/2023 21:52

Follow the Track All the Way Back
Where's My Hat
Little Bee
Peppa Pig Marvellous Magnet Book
Then they also like the Wonderbly books which are personalised but unlike any other personalised books I've seen, these ones have well-written substantial stories and good illustrations in them, so they make fantastic gifts.

Iizzyb · 01/07/2023 21:55

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Hairy McLairy

Fox's Socks, Rabbits Nap

Little Rabbit Foo Foo (as ds slwYs said "I don't like your rattitude...")

Brefugee · 01/07/2023 21:56

Everything by Eric Carle especially, but not limited to:

Would also agree with Acorn Wood stories, Giraffes Can't Dance, and Hungry Caterpillar

pinguins · 01/07/2023 21:58

Tiddler will always be my favourite. Someone bought it as a present for my dd when I’d just had her younger brother and I have such happy memories of reading it to her holding tiny little ds.

My last dd has just turned 4 and hasn’t been as interested in stories which is a shame. She does like Poo Bum by Stephanie Blake. Ds was obsessed with Avocado Baby.

FindingTheFox · 01/07/2023 22:07

I love you more by sebastian braun

Pete the cat and his new shoes!!

CelticPromise · 01/07/2023 22:28

Lots of the above like Oi Frog, Stuck, I want my hat back (and sequels), Peepo.
Others we love:
Grandad's Island (same author as the Storm Whale)
Dragon loves Penguin by Debbi Gliori
Giraffes can't dance
Nanette's Baguette
And the old classics Richard Scarry books

Carouselfish · 01/07/2023 22:33

The Lamb Who Came to Dinner (adorable, old wolf adopts lamb he meant to eat)
Never Ask a Dinosaur to Dinner ( really great rhymes )
The Storm Whale ( lovely pictures)
I Am a Tiger (One for the gender critical parent to appreciate)

itsapalaver · 01/07/2023 22:33

The Alfie and Annie Rose books by Shirley Hughes, beautiful illustrations.
