Adenoidectomy- post op experience

My son had his adenoids out yesterday and grommets. I noticed last night he was still snoring and was a bit sweaty.

Tonight he's gone to bed and he seems to have his sleep apnea back, snoring and sweaty, restless and obviously not breathing and sleeping soundly.

I thought once adenoids out it would make a difference - even at this stage when things are probably swollen in there, but he seems worse than he was before the op!

Does anyone have experience of the same thing and did it improve eventually?

Hello. My daughter had an adenotonsillectomy plus vents last week and is still sounding like she did prior to surgery - snoring, thick voice etc. I think it takes a while for everything to settle down. Hope he recovers well x

Yes, same here. Took a few days, maybe 10 tops to settle down. Think he snored worse than ever the first few nights but it will go away. Peace at last!

Oh great thanks so much! This is really reassuring x

Took about 4 days for DDs breathing to clear.

I assume they checked tonsils aren't causing any issues?

His tonsils look normal size. I think they were graded size 1 which I think is below average size. He's never had tonsillitis etc

All of his issues have been with snoring, SA, hearing troubles, recurrent ear infection and perforation. Surgeon said his adenoids were really big. So hopefully it is just the adenoids and he's not going to need another op 😖

Tonsils and adenoids out and grommets in about 3 months ago. I slept in her bedroom for about a week post op as wanted to be near by, and it was easier when giving pain relief in the night etc. I had to sleep with earplugs in as her snoring was worse than it had ever been!! Several nights in I woke up in a panic thinking she was dead as I couldn’t hear a peep from her whatsoever! She was sleeping silently for the first time in her life and it confused me!
her voice suddenly went very high pitched and squeaky after the op - sounded like Joe pasquale 😂😂 it settled within a few weeks though

Just wanted to update - my son is now silent when he sleeps! No snoring or apnea, he's as quiet as a mouse! Can't believe it!

This is so reassuring to read. Have been crazy worries as my DD whos 6 year old cannot breathe through the nose at All. It seems completely blocked without any mucous. Cannot wait for her to feel better. Hoping it will be soon. Counting days.
