Moving from high chair to...

Hi all,

My 20 month old has recently started massively kicking off when we attempt to put him in the highchair. He has a good scream for a while once he's in it, but once he starts eating he continues fine.

I think this is a sign he's ready to move on from the high chair.

My question is what did you do after the high chair? Go straight to a regular chair or some sort of booster seat? He's sat at the table on a normal chair a couple of times but he won't stay there for anything so I'm wondering if there's another solution!

Thanks all

We've got a small table and chair set from IKEA in our living room for our eldest. My youngest (similar age to yours) has started sitting himself there when I give him snacks.

We had a booster seat for a while, I think ours was from John Lewis.

We had a booster seat, mainly so they could reach the table properly, but it did have a strap so they couldn't easily get out

Mine used to just kneel up to the table on a normal chair. They liked being ‘grown up’ at that age and disliked any kind of straps.

Tripp Trapp chair - not cheap but we bought second hand and still used daily 8 years later

We got a booster seat off market place which went onto a normal chair. It was easy to wipe clean still and our DS loved sitting with us.

We went to a tripp trapp that DC either fell off spectacularly or just ignored so moved into 4 years of sitting on mummys lap. What fun it was 😩

Don't use the tray on the high chair and push it up the table.

I would just ignore the complaints and carry on using the high chair a while longer tbh

We just got a booster cushion. But DC1 is quite biddable so stayed sat at the table even though she wasn't strapped in.

Another vote for the tripp trapp - toddler can sit comfortably at the right height and without legs dangling. They are not cheap but plenty of decent condition used ones on Facebook market place
