School Golden book

Our kids school enters multiple children from each year into the golden book every Friday.

We have found out from both my kids they just dish them out in alphabetical order. I think this is so unfair and not really genuine, what do you think?

Teachers can’t win.
If they let everyone have a turn it’s unfair and if they don’t it’s also unfair.

It sounds completely fair - everyone gets their turn.
Or are there other criteria? You haven't said what they are.

It's the school's book. I rather think it is up to them !

It really depends.

If you believe everyone should have a turn then alphabetical order makes as much sense as any other way of organising it all. The teachers just need to make sure the child is being recognised for something they genuinely have done e.g "Betty answered a particularly hard question in Maths this week and Sammy sat quietly all the way through book time" even though Betty normally finds Maths a little hard and Sammy usually has to be told at least once to shush during a story.

I totally get making it fair and not missing anybody out which I agree with but to make it so obvious to the kids is surely a bad move. To the point mine come home and announce they will be in the golden book next week.

Always for the same reasons too, kind and having a smile always.
