potty training a 3 year old!

I have a boy who will be 3 in March and still not interested in the potty or the toilet, please help.

Have tried sticker chart, no pressure, letting him be without nappies around the house, fun pants, potty in front of the tv. So what now?

Many thanks

leave it until he shows some interest it will be SO much easier and quicker.

Hi Kuka - My DS will be 3 in March too and we have just had a miserable 4 day attempt at potty training with a few lucky catches only. Just to let you know you are not alone. I am planning to be patient and wait for him to suggest it but I hope that will be before too long. If you think about all the other things DS has learnt to do, walking, talking etc it has always been on his following his own time scale and I have the feeling this is the same. Good luck

Thank you for the replys I have tried to go with my instincts and played the waiting game as they do all have their own timeframes, but it just gets worrying when people comment on the fact he is almost 3 and still in nappies.

Kuka dont listen to anyone else, i didnt, got sick of everyone saying stuff to me but i didnt listen and one day she suddenly wanted to do everything herself (they say that is the first sign) and so i thought ok lets try eith the potty training.....it took less than a week. (age3)

Dont worry about how old your DS is, he will show you the signs when he is ready. Its so much easier that way.

Good luck with it

I'm starting with DS1 in 2 weeks (he'll be 3.5). he just wasn't ready at 3.

Someone recommended the Gina Ford potty training book. I hate her baby routine books, but the potty training book was surprisingly empathic toward toddelers. The biggest key to success is 'pre-potty' training apparently. I would add that we added the appearance of pants in the drawers, then over nappies to her other suggestions. And I've also made DS1 sit on the tpoilet at nursery as well.

I have two friends who had boys who were not interested until 3.6. I would just wait. You don't see many adults in nappies -they all do it eventually!

thank you all for the sound advice
