DS2 is 3yrs 9 mths old and fully toilet trained (dry at night too)

The last week he has gone back to soiling his pants which is becoming a nightmare.

He has some speech and communication difficulties so I am finding it hard to get through to him. He knows he should poo on the toilet.

Anyone been through this situation and got any advice, please am at my wits end.

Yep, my ds sid it too, tough he regressed at about age 4. Drove me mad too. All the advice I read was not to scream and shout (though it is hard not to)

I took ds to see our GP, just to rule out any medical issues and she had a good talk with ds.

I tried shouting, talking, star charts and nothing worked I'm afraid to say.

It stopped just before he started school - but I don't know why.

Not much help I know but just wanted to say it happenned here too and all is well now.

thanks DrN. he is just pooing a small amount out, just enough to soil his pants enough for them to need changing. thenhe does the same again about half an hour later and so on and so on. If it was just one big poo I could clean it up and that would be that for the day (probably) but its not like that, he is just letting out small amounts each time.
have even thought of buying some ping pong balls I saw in sainsburys that have little faces on, thats how desperate i am getting

That's what my ds was doing - almost like litle pellets.

Have you thought he may be constipated?

Ds does have a history of constipation and has been on Movicol for almost 2 years now. I have managed to get it down to half a sachet every other day but its enough to keep him regular. I am sure its not constipation thats causing the problem but I do suspect that his bum has got sore and that is the root of the problem.

before this problem started he used to take himself off to the toilet and then try and wipe his bum, but he never told anyone he had been so sometimes he wouldnt have his bum wiped straight away and I think he has got sore and is now avoiding the toilet.

Think I will have to make sure his bum has plenty of cream on and hope he can get past this phase.
