Reflux or painful gas?

My baby boy is two months old and has been through it. He had severe reflux and was spitting up upwards of 27 times a day (but gaining weight) and refusing to sleep unless I held him upright. He’s exclusively breast fed and the doctors don’t suspect allergies at this time.

We were prescribed omeprazole for reflux which was a miracle for the first few days (maybe because we gave it at night), but everything has fallen apart. My son is screaming in pain from gas and is backed up and only nursing for a few minutes at a time before screaming because he’s so uncomfortable.

I want to stop the omeprazole. He is inconsolable and I would rather deal with the constant spitting up than this.
Has anyone else dealt with this side effect? Are there other meds we should try?

My second son had omeprazole and it definitely got worse before it got better. I'd give it a bit longer for him to get used to it before giving up. Once it started working properly he was a completely different baby, it changed our lives

Do you recall how long it took? He’s been on it for about ten days.
