Potty training - am I expecting too much?

We are on day 12 of potty training. Overall I'd say it's going fairly well but I do have some concerns!

My son is 2.5 and since we started he has been dry overnight (I still put nappies on him at night).

I usually ask him if he needs the toilet about every half hour. And take him after an hour to an hour and a half if he hasn't been. I take him as the potty is in the bathroom upstairs. If I don't take him, he doesn't ask and just has an accident. He is quite happy using the potty, doesn't have any issues with it.

When he starts to get tired late afternoon/early evening that is generally when the accidents start happening. I change his pants and shorts and just say something like 'remember wee goes in the potty not in your pants'. These accidents are often shortly after I've asked if he needs to go and he's said no!

He often has like a tiny dribble of pee on his pants or his shorts - it's like he had a tiny leak sometimes but stopped!

He's doing so well; but I'm after advice for how to move on to get him to tell me he wants to go? As obviously need him to learn as I can't always prompt him! Should I give it more time?

This is totally age-appropriate; you'll need to keep prompting him for a good while yet. He's a learner toileter.

I would try having more potties around or have yours in the same room at all times. My house is full of potties at the moment and my twins are on and off them like yo-yos! We take a potty everywhere we go at the moment and as much as I do prompt them they also let me know when they need to go. They are similar age and similar stage of potty training.

@MostlyBlueberryFlavoured that's good to know thanks!

@Louisa4987 we do have one in our lounge as well but he only wants to use the upstairs one 😂

Probably a controversial method but I've been giving mine a small sweet for each wee/poo on the potty and they're very food orientated so they'll always squeeze out a wee for a sweetBlush
