Potty problems!

Hi

We've been potty training DD (2.5), so far so good, except she won't go to a 'big girl' toilet, which is a massive problem if we go anywhere. We've a foam trainer seat at home - she won't use it. We've got the steps with the trainer seat on - won't use it. Will only use the potty. Once at nursery she's used a small children's toilet but that's it. Other than carting her potty around everywhere with us, has anyone got any ideas we could try?

Thanks!

A lot of people have a stage where they do cart a potty round, you can get travel ones. I did with all of mine as you have to work with what the child is comfortable with. They definitely had a fairly long stage of being happy with the potty, then the toilet with a trainer seat then the toilet on their own.

You do just have to cart a potty around I'm afraid! My daughter will now use a proper toilet with a child's adaptor seat but we still take her travel potty out with us as it's more convenient than carrying the seat for a short trip.

Get a potette! potette.com/

Great to keep in the car and can be used as a potty or seat on the toilet. Handy for a few years as an emergency loo on the go!

My DS is like this too. Will - very reluctantly- go in one of our toilets at home but not the other. Other than that, our penguin portable potty is our best friend...

Get a my carry potty and just let her use the potty, she'll decide to use the toilet when she's ready. My daughter will use either but tbh sometimes it's preferable to have her use the potty over public toilets 🤢

I offer my daughter a chocolate button and she will pee in a public toilet on demand Grin

Ah thank you for all of your replies! Will definitely look into the travel potty and the potette! Nearly there with it I suppose!

@Lizardonachair this made me giggle Grin

Yes DD1 took some time before she was happy to use a big toilet, even with us holding her on one. We had one of the carry potties that stayed in car mostly. She'll get there! The interim phase between being freshly potty trained and being confident out and about is a tricky one but it doesn't last forever.

Our toddler did this for a while, and I'd echo the travel potty, we loved that. The other thing that helped was noise cancelling wireless headphones. It turned out that she was terrified of the loud noises that adult public toilets tend to make.
