It is advised to start when they start coming through. I'm still trying to convince my 18 month old with 12 teeth to do it . you can buy special brushes for young uns

Dentist pal reckons as soon as..

We have a little finger doodat with a brush tip (from NCT catalogue) which we use to brush DSs (10.5 mnths) teeth...
