Is this normal?

My baby recently turned 1 last weekend I've been gradually mixing formula and whole cows milk until today I've tried him with just all cows milk but ever since him drinking cows milk he's been pooing more regularly and it's a light green colour is this normal? I rang the doctors but they have no more spaces for an appointment today so is it worth the worry? Sorry if TMI

I know the switch to cows milk can give them a bit of a bad tummy for a bit. My HV said light green poo was normal - she actually told me to only worry if poo was white or had blood in it. Im not a medical professional though and that's just what I was told.

If baby is otherwise fine I wouldn't worry too much but would probably try to talk to the doctor about it when you can for peace of mind

Our doctor told us a long time ago that "colours of the forrest" for poop are all ok.

I spoke to my GP because I rang back worried and got put on the emergency list and he's advised me to stop the cows milk put my baby back on formula until I speak to my HV and she might discuss alternative milks so that's that don't wanna keep him on formula for to much longer it's just a ball ache and I hope he doesn't have to go on any follow on milks or toddler milks they cost a fortune ridiculous pricing for a baby's NEEDS!

I hear you. Our baby is 10 months and 1% on the growth scale. I am so ready to ditch formula and just pay for milk, and I guarantee that I will be told to use a toddler growth one instead/as well as milk. GAHH.

Monstermoomin · 21/06/2023 20:08

Is the formula a special dairy free one?

I spoke to my HV and she's told me that the poo episodes are normal because of the change of milk and that I should keep him on cows milk and just let him get used to it but obviously if it doesn't stop then gotta give her a ring back

To be honest you’re probably better of putting him on fortified oat milk or something. Cows milk is okay but it’s not got all the same nutrients as breast or formula and can be tricky to digest which is why they say never before 12 months. If you’re switching to cows you’ll need vitamin drops unless you can guarantee their food is varied enough.

@Sarahtm35

Can you share what oat milk? Does it matter on the brand? Seems to be so many! My little one is cmpa and I'm keen to come off formula next month when she turns 1 - so for us won't be trying cows milk just yet like I did with my first

My little girl is on Oatly Barista as it’s one of the most fortified. She had Alpro growing up milk for a while, too and she’s loved both. You just want the ones that are most fortified with all of the good stuff and preferably have iodine in them.

I buy the NHS vitamin drops from superdrug or boots as those were the ones we got free when she was younger and lived in an area that you got them from the HV.
