Being sick affect breastfeeding supply?

I’m really unwell at the moment, 111 assume I have food poisoning and I’ve been vomiting with diarrhoea since Tuesday night 🤢 I’m finding it so hard to look after my 3 month old, he’s gone from lasting 2-3 hours between feeds to almost constant and won’t let me put him down. Which I’m really struggling with as I have to keep dashing to the bathroom.

with how frequent he’s feeding I’m feeling like maybe he’s not getting enough milk? I’m drinking water but finding it difficult to keep in.

Will I be better having my partner feed him some formula I don’t want him to starve and he seems so unsettled and tbh I’m absolutely done in!

will my milk dry up if I do give him formula for a day or two until I’m better?

Hi OP, sorry you’re going through this Sad

I breastfed twins around the 3 month mark with Norivurus back in the day and panicked I’d need to top up… you won’t. Just try to keep hydrated and have a read here: breastfeeding with stomach bug

good luck and feel better soon!

I hope this doesn’t sound preachy, and I know how miserable it is to be unwell with a small baby, but I promise you, millions of years of evolution has made it possible to do this without needing formula (no judgement here though)!

Should breastfeeding continue when mom is sick? • KellyMom.com
