6 year old regression in writing - ADHD?

Hi,

My friends 6 year old had had a regression in his reading and writing at school. He has gone from being top of the class to not being able to form letters properly and getting confused while reading. This is one and off. He is able to write some days and some days he can’t. On the advice of his teachers he has been to hospital for an MRI scan - they wanted to rule out a stroke. He has also had blood tests and they have ruled out medical issues. His parents separated last October and his Mum thinks this may be part of the problem. However he has a stable routine and time is split evening between his two homes. He is happy in himself in every other way. Follows instructions and can communicate effectively vocally.

Does anyone have any experience with this or can suggest next steps?

Thank you in advance!

Could be dyslexia, dysgraphia or caused by physical issues like hypermobility.

I'd ask school for an educational psychologist assessment and and OT to rule out these possible causes. If they refuse ask for an ECHNA as it's better to address issues like this sooner than later otherwise it can cause anxiety if they don't progress as they would expect.
