When did you introduce a pillow to your toddler?

As the title suggest!

Some sources say 12 months, others say 18 months, and others 24 months.

What did you do?

LO is currently 15.5 months, was thinking to introduce between 18-24 months. Is this reasonable?

12mo but he didn’t really use it until he was about 18mo.

UnravellingTheWorld · 15/06/2023 16:29

22 mo and still no pillow.

It's not recommended before 12 months (SIDS). Not necessary before 24-36 months. I considered it briefly, but it's just another thing to wash 😂

I'll probably give him one when he transitions from a cot

Pretty much straight after 1st birthday. He started to show interest in it by putting his head on our pillows.

I didn't give a pillow or duvet as he didn't seem bothered, once he was about 2 I have a pillow and suddenly he started sleeping at the right end of the bed rather than any which way!
Duvet was about 3 years old and then he started sleeping at any angle again rather than curled up like a mouse on his front.
He's never been a great sleeper though, even at nearly 4.
(Our house is pretty warm even in the middle of winter and doesn't really cool when the heating is off overnight)

Also stop worrying for the correct answer, as long as you avoid introducing before 12 months, there's no right or wrong answer! It's up to your child whether to use it or not once you offer

I have so many pictures of DS with his pillow underneath his tummy or between his legs from when he was 12-18 months 😁 he started using it properly from about 18 months

NewNovember · 15/06/2023 17:01

Once in a bed so a couple of months off three.

HAF1119 · 15/06/2023 17:04

I put one in from 2 years :)

CoalCraft · 15/06/2023 17:05

When she moved into a toddler bed aged around 25 months. She doesn't actually use it though.

onthefence23 · 15/06/2023 19:05

About 17/18 months ... when she started dragging one through from our room for her bed shouting "piwwwoww" Grin

Naaaaamechange · 15/06/2023 19:09

Around 15 months, she got a duvet and pillow once she got too long for sleeping bags

avocadotofu · 15/06/2023 19:10

Around two.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/06/2023 19:11

Probably around age 2. But he co slept in my bed from age 6 months but I keep a very lightweight quilt

Mummyboy1 · 15/06/2023 19:14

I got one for 16 months as he started to use his muslins as a pillow. He's had it about a month and most of the time he's using it.

libraryquery · 15/06/2023 19:14

About 15 months. But if they're happy without now, I'd hold off until the autumn as toddlers seem to get extra sweaty heads and a pillow won't help!

StEtienne93 · 15/06/2023 19:17

I tried when she was two but she wouldn't take to it. She had a bout of illness when she was three and slept in my bed with me. After that, she asked for a pillow. She dropped it for a while last year during the heatwave, but asked for it back when winter set in and had one since.

Bookendortwo · 15/06/2023 19:17

Dc1 aged 12 months on advice of respiratory consultant to see if it helped chest.
Dt were 3 because they were sleeping well in beds with no pillow but then decided they wanted to be like dc1.

Spottypineapple · 15/06/2023 20:26

I think around 18 months, but only because she was showing lots of interest. She loved patting the pillows in our bed and putting her head down and pretending to sleep, same with the cushions in the lounge.

We also found she stopped moving all around the cot during the night, because she had her pillow to keep her head on! Better sleep, woke up happier.

TheTwirlyPoos · 18/01/2024 21:43

When they came out of a cot so probably shortly before they turned three? That was for both but my memory is shocking
