Chicken pox

Hi my son had an itchy bright red spot on his hand. We thought it was a bug bite. This was Thursday night. He hasn't acted sick at all even though he gets an obvious temperature with most mild viruses. He showed me two more itchy red spots on his arm last night. Nothing more this morning that I can tell. His hand bump never filled with fluid or anything and doesn't really look like the chicken pox pics I've seen. It seems like an odd presentation if it is chicken pox. Three spots since Thursday. None of them filled with fluid and haven't been especially itchy like I remember it being. People say it usually starts on the torso or face. It seems odd to be on the hand and arms and nowhere else even since Thursday or overnight. If it's not CP then I don't know what it could be. I don't think we have biting bugs indoors. I was reassured when it never seemed to change into a blister and that he's been feeling good. I worry that it's the calm before the storm but the idea of waiting all week for development is stressful. When can we determine if he's in the clear?

Thank you.

Could it be hand foot and mouth?

Lee22e · 11/06/2023 13:59

I had considered hand foot mouth but not sure what the exposure would be since he's 9. I was home with him until age 5 so he missed a lot of those viruses. I always thought you felt pretty poorly with that but it's possible. Thank you.

Doesn't sound like chicken pox as they haven't formed into fluid filled blisters

Thanks everyone. From Thursday to now, when is it safe to assume it's not CP? We noticed the arm spots after dinner yesterday and those don't have fluid in them and still no fluid on his hand bump from Thursday. It's very odd.

Probably just three bug bites!

Definitely doesn't sound like chicken pox

Probably gnat or mosquito bites. Doesn't sound like chicken pox to me.

Thanks. He has a new one on his neck. Still no progression of the others. My husband thinks the one on his hand is fading but I can't tell. No fluid building. So odd. No idea what's biting him.
