Do I need to get a new mattress for my moses basket?

I am due with DC2 in 6 weeks. Do you know if I should buy a new mattress for the moses basket. It was last used by DD 2.4 years ago and a friends baby last year. Its got a plastic cover on it and looks to be in good condition. I just wanted to know what the guidleines are.

I think that the guidelines say that you should always get a new mattress.

I didn't though.

You're supposed to have a new one for each child I think.

Ooohh that was quick. Just seems a bit pointless for the sake of a few weeks as DD grew out of the basket by 10 weeks but maybe I will then.
