Can I let my 14 month old sleep with a (flattish) pillow

She's on antibiotics atm for a fairly chesty cough and her chest makes such an awful sound when she's lying flat, could I put a pillow under her head or is it risky

I would put a book under her cots legs to raise it slightly, but not so much she rolls.

We put a rolled up towel or pillow under the mattress so it lifted slightly.

guidance is that pillows are fine after 12 months though.

We bought my now 15 month old a toddler pillow for the same reasons when he was 13 months. I was terrified of him having it even though you can introduce a pillow from 12. He’s been absolutely fine, really loves it and I can tell he’s more comfortable because he sleeps better. I don’t know why I worried so much.
I would say unfortunately it makes no difference to a cough. Even propped up on a thicker pillow under supervision, doesn’t help when he has a cough.

I think there’s a lot of better ways to help him rather than risk cot death with a pillow. Be sensible.

Yes, pillows are OK from 1 year
Mine had one from that age

Oh FGS, the NHS advises a pillow after 12 months is fine! Have you seen or felt toddler pillows, you'd struggle to suffocate an ant!

My DD is 13 months and has one. She loves it and has slept much better. She also wears an owlet sock and her heart rate/SATS have never been affected, even when she buried her head right under the pillow a few nights ago. Naturally I repositioned her, but she was fine.

A 14 month old can’t be a cot death. It’s up to 12 months only. And as others have said, a pillow is fine after a year.
