What worked to boost your kid's self esteem?

Just that really. I have a very unconfident 8 year old and wondering how to help build his self esteem. No obvious reason as to what's making him feel down on himself.

If you managed to successfully boost your kid's confidence and self esteem, what actually worked for you? Online tips seem so trite, would love to hear some real stories.

We had similar issues with our 12yo. Probably was worst when he was about 8. I don't know what caused it, but it was sad watching such a fun and happy little kid start feeling down. I wonder if it relates to them starting to become aware of social pressures- boys have to be good at sports, girls have to be pretty- all that rubbish. Mine became interested in reading and history (and politics of all things!). He got one or two good friends and that really changed things for him. I think helping them to find their interests is important. Hope it gets better for you!
