Support available for Mums to be

Hi all,

Not sure I’m posting this in the right place.

I’m currently 11+3wks pregnant, with a very much wanted baby. We’d been trying for years and I was undergoing fertility testing. I found out I was pregnant and then was told the next day I was being made redundant.

I’d been with my employer for nearly 7yrs and had a well paid job with ok-ish Mat leave policy.

My partners salary alone doesn’t cover the mortgage and bills, so I need to get back to work asap.

I don’t want to mislead any potential employer by not disclosing a pregnancy. Would you tell them at offer stage?

I’m also not going to be able to take much in the way of maternity leave. I won’t be eligible for SMP and as mentioned, my partner can’t cover the bills and mortgage alone. We’re also getting married in September and we’ve paid a huge chunk already which we wouldn’t get refunded if we cancelled.

I already feel a huge amount of guilt that I’m going to have to return to work very quickly post birth. Has anyone else had to do this?

I wanted to breastfeed but will that even be possible if I have to return to work after 6weeks?

What other support is out there for new Mums?

Sorry for all the questions, feeling a bit emotionally and mentally overwhelmed atm

I was made redundant a few days after I found out I was pregnant, I did temping jobs until the baby was born. By temping I qualified for maternity allowance.

Also look if you’ll qualify for benefits when the baby is born by doing a fictional benefits calculator, you may be entitled to some.
