BF and weight training

Sorry I wasn’t sure which section to post in!

My DC is six months and finally in a routine where I can pop to the gym two evenings a week once she’s asleep (DH at home) and one short run on the weekend. That’s the plan anyway….

My DC is EBF.

Pre baby I loved weight training and was really in shape. Trained throughout pregnancy. Had to take a break from exercising once the baby arrived as she basically has fed every 45 mins to 1.5 hours the first five months of her life.

I’ve now just read that building and maintaining muscle when BF is super hard due to lower levels of testosterone and oestgean.

Any one have any experience of BF and weight training?

I suppose it depends what your goals are... I went back to CrossFit 10w post partum and breastfed until DD was 20months. It takes a while to build strength back up just from having taken so long off, but there's nothing to stop you.

I started training with weights when DD was about 3 months old, I did P90X while she napped at lunchtime and got pretty ripped!! BF her till she was about 10 months.

DS was a different story, he hated sleep and never napped so it was much harder to get back to exercising. He's a bit older now and I am in the gym working on my powerlifting!!

BTW there's a topic called The Weights Room where all the weightlifting enthusiasts hang out.

I would urge you to take care of your pelvic floor. Do some research, maybe see a women’s physio before starting.
