Toddler throwing comforter

My 22mo DS has a comforter in his cot. However, he’s now taken to throwing out of the cot so that we go up.

If we don’t go up, he cries hysterically and I’m really struggling to hear him that upset.

We tried taking it away so it wasn’t in his cot at all but that was equally as tough.

I’ve tried explaining that if it gets thrown out we won’t come back and get it.

I’m at a loss as to what to do. He’s just thrown it out for the third time and has been hysterically crying for the last 5/10 minutes.

I think pretty much only solution is take it away. But not in an angry way, just in a like, ok it seems like you don't want this anymore because you are throwing it out way. He will cry of course, but stay firm. Eventually he will fall asleep. Don't give it back the next night , or if you do, take it away as soon as it is thrown. He'll learn pretty fast. If you keep giving it back then obviously he will just learn it's a game and no point at all threatening to take it away and then not doing so, that just make you look like a liar in his eyes 👀
